How to make the best spring rolls (with eight important tips)

by KP Kwan @ Taste Of Asian Food

Freshly deep-fried spring rolls are light, crispy and airy. The crackling sound of the first bite brings back the memory of the bustling old-school Dim Sum shop once I had as a kid. Vietnamese Shaking Beef (Bo Luc Lac) | Skinnytaste

Skinnytaste

Vietnamese steak salad served on a bed of greens and tomatoes, topped with pickled onions and a lime dipping sauce. This widely popular Asian dish combines many taste sensations and creates a harmony of flavors with every bite. The "shaking" in the name refers to the tossing of the beef back and forth in the wok after it's quickly seared. You can serve this as a salad for a low carb meal or make some rice on the side. This is traditionally served over a bed of watercress which I couldn't find, so I used an arugula blend instead. Thick soy sauce is traditionally used here, but you can use low sodium soy sauce instead if this is not available to you. This was a recent recipe which I wanted to make as authentic as possible and upon doing some research came I came across and this recipe from Ravenous Couple who was guest posting on Rasa Malaysia. I had no doubt this dish would be a hit with my family and I hope you all like it too. I've made some adjustments to the recipe to lighten it a

Orange Glazed Ham Recipe

I recently made this wonderful orange glazed ham recipe. It's sooo good! We always make a ham for our annual holiday party. Eating in Tokyo

by julie @ meat loves salt » meat loves salt

Last September, we took a short trip to Tokyo. It was my first time in Japan, and though my husband has relatives there, he hadn’t been back since childhood. This city truly felt like Paris in Asia, and like the French, the Japanese also bring a lot of care and attention to everything they do. Ever since our trip, I have found myself quite smitten with the Japanese obsession with details and their compulsion to perfect absolutely everything, ...

My friend Simon says that there's a lot of confusing and misleading online chatter about chicken phở these days. If you've had the original beef phở then you're bound to want to explore the chicken version, which is slightly lighter in flavor, but delicious still. Making noodle soup is an art form that take a bit of time, but most of the time is passive cooking. I encourage you to try making your own bowl so that you may savor and appreciate a well-crafted bowl. At Simon's urging, I'm sharing this chicken phở recipe from my cookbook, Into the Vietnamese Kitchen (Ten Speed Press, 2006). While beef phở may be the version that most people know and like, chicken phở is also excellent. In recent...

Beijing Breakfasts

One of my favorite things to do when friends visit us in Beijing is to take them on a morning walk to look for breakfast. It’s a great way to start the day in Beijing — there’s a buzz in the air as everyone is hurrying off to work and the city comes alive. Breakfasts carts abound everywhere, but they are particularly plentiful near subway stops. And if you happen to stumble upon a busy food street, with stalls and hole-in-the-wall ...

Easy Vietnamese Pork Bun Bowls | Bowl of Delicious

bowl of delicious!

These Vietnamese Pork Bun Bowls (Bún) are easy to throw together on a busy weeknight and only take about 20 minutes (minus marinating time). They have the same fresh, savory, sweet, and umami-rich flavor as at your favorite Vietnamese restaurant, but incorporate a few shortcuts to make them extra quick and easy to make at home. What is your favorite kind of Asian food? I've thought long and hard about this. I'm hesitant to commit, since they are all so different from each other, but I am almost 100% certain for me it's Vietnamese. The flavors are always so fresh and bright, especially from the use of fresh herbs. The dishes are usually very light yet satisfying, and I never feel weighed down after eating them. Unfamiliar with Vietnamese food? Bún bowls, Bánh mì, and Phở are some of the most popular dishes you'll find at Vietnamese restaurants, and all are wonderfully delicious. These Pork Bun Bowls are kind of like a salad. They're super fresh, super healthy, gluten free, and very
