Dominic Colose returning to The Wine Bar in Saratoga

by Steve Barnes, senior writer @ Table Hopping

Help Local Product Gain Traction on Kickstarter

by Ashley Dingeman @ Saratoga Food Fanatic

How many times have you craved a bloody mary but couldn’t get your hands on one because you were missing some of the ingredients and didn’t want something mediocre? Besides going out to a restaurant, there are so many ingredients to buy if you want to make it from scratch, and let’s be honest… a lot of the pre-made mixes kind of taste like garbage. So what if I told you there’s a new product that combines the ease of making a bloody mary at home without the hassle of buying 10-12 ingredients to make it? Say hello to Devil Daves Bloody Mary Sticks.  That’s right – Devil Daves is a single serving stick pack with real grated horseradish that makes an Instant Bloody Mary when added to tomato juice. GENIUS, right?    So on top of that, the guy who created it is local, which is why I’m asking you guys for your help. He just launched on Kickstarter on January 1st and is looking to raise $12,000 to launch in May. He has until February 1st to reach his goal.   I personally haven’t tried the product, but it sounds awesome. And I can’t wait to!    See […]

New Restaurant Coming to Beekman

by Ashley Dingeman @ Saratoga Food Fanatic

If you haven’t heard, there’s a new restaurant joining Beekman Street in the previously occupied 62 Beekman.  Taverna Novo, expected to open next year, will be run by Jeff and Patricia Novo. The duo, who owned and operated Crush & Cask Wine and Spirits on South Broadway for many years, plan to serve traditional, authentic Italian dishes at the new restaurant, according to Saratoga.com, I have to admit, I’m really looking forward to seeing a restaurant go into that space with the type of passion and love for food that Patty Novo has. Plus, her experience in the wine industry is surely going to result in an amazing wine list once Taverna Novo opens.  Once I hear more, I’ll report back!

The 5 Best Restaurants in Tomball

$20 Meal Deal at Dock Browns

by Ashley Dingeman @ Saratoga Food Fanatic

There are a few destinations in Saratoga that are considered to be THE “summer spots.” Some of those places include Lake Local, Harvest and Hearth, and Dock Browns. While Lake Local and Harvest and Hearth close for part of the colder season, did you know that Dock Browns is still open? Not only that, but this spot where people love to hang out on the beach or to eat on the deck overlooking the water in the summer totally transforms into a cozy and quiet dining destination during the winter months. But today I’m not really here to write about atmosphere and more to write about the $19.99 16 oz. Ribeye special they run every Friday night. The meal comes with two sides, including a potato (baked or potato wedges) and a seasonal vegetable. I was teetering with the idea of posting this picture because the lighting was not ideal (as it isn’t in most restaurants at night), but I wanted to show the portions, and the beautiful brussels. The brussels sprouts were awesome, sauteed in a really nice apple cider reduction and little pieces of bacon that made this meal complete. Bacon + cider + brussels = YAS QUEEN. […]

A True Gem: Rocco’s On Main

by Ashley Dingeman @ Saratoga Food Fanatic

If I could describe my feelings about this experience in one word, it would be wow. For so many reasons. Wow – how could I have not been to this restaurant sooner? Wow – the food was outstanding. Wow – why are more people not talking about this restaurant? Wow – when can I go back again? Last weekend for my mom’s birthday, she chose to go somewhere we’ve never been to as a family. For me, it’s surprising how many restaurants I haven’t been to in the capital region, but there are some that have been at the top of my list for a long time and I just haven’t made the time to go. Rocco’s on Main in Clifton Park is one of those places. Once it was decided we’d be going there, the more I dove into their menu online – as I do with most places I’m going. See, I’m a terrible decision maker, so if I don’t go in with a slight plan, I’m doomed.  There were a few items that caught my attention, including the Fregola Sarda y Vongole, Pork Tenderloin Roulade and the Brick Chicken. Honestly though, everything on this menu made my mouth water, […]

Some Much Needed R&R… The Restaurant

by Ashley Dingeman @ Saratoga Food Fanatic

When restaurants open during the summer, I tend to wait a little longer than I should to check them out. R&R Kitchen and Bar is no exception.  Finally, last week before Christmas I finally had my turn and went for dinner with Tim and his aunt and uncle, and I’ll tell you, it was everything I remembered to be special about Chef Brian Bowden’s cooking and then some. First off, the menu is great. It has a really nice variety of options for all different palates, while still being a relatively small menu. That’s impressive. Second, sweetbreads. Veal sweatbreads were a special that night, and Tim’s eyes lit up. The first time we ever tried sweetbreads was at 15 Church very shortly after they opened, and since then it’s been one of Tim’s top favorite things to eat. I was rather hesitant to try them since it’s a little difficult to get past what they are, but once I tasted them for the first time I was totally on board. Lightly breaded and fried, these sweetbreads were dreamy as can be. A little salty, a little sweet, and a little acidic from the dressed greens they put on top. It […]

Chef Colose Back to The Wine Bar

by Ashley Dingeman @ Saratoga Food Fanatic

I’m SO pleased to announce that one of my favorite chefs is returning to the Saratoga restaurant scene. Chef Dominic Colose is coming BACK to The Wine Bar! According to his latest blog post (which if you don’t read already, you really should…), he has been working out his agreement with The Wine Bar last week and will officially be returning as their Chef. If you weren’t aware, Colose was the Chef at The Wine Bar for many years, and left his position just two years ago to pursue other endeavors.  Colose has a pretty extensive background in the industry, and isn’t afraid to take risks in the kitchen (which I love.) He cooks with flair, something that is much needed in the Saratoga food scene. Hopefully everyone is as excited as I am about this announcement!

Wonton Soup at Great Tangs

by Ashley Dingeman @ Saratoga Food Fanatic

I actually cannot believe I haven’t talked about this on the blog before, but the wonton soup at Great Tangs is one of my favorite things to eat, ever. Yes, I’m talking about Great Tangs, that Chinese/Sushi/Thai restaurant in the Price Chopper plaza on Route 50.  What makes it so great? Here are some of the reasons: Handmade wontons. Like, I’ve actually seen them make them, so I can attest to them being handmade.  Affordability. For a small (which is 4 wontons) it’s $2.25, and for a large (with 8 wontons) it’s $3.75. WTF!?! Melt in your mouth. These suckers are little bites sent from the heavens above. They melt in your mouth and are super flavorful.  Take out or dine in! You don’t even have to eat it there – you can get it as take out and it’s still amazing. However, I do find that having it at the restaurant is slightly better because of the plastic take out container they’re put in when you order to go. I mean… do I need any other reasons? All I can say is I’m sorry for holding on to this for as long as I have. It’s truly not fair […]
